Week 2 of Pregnancy
2 WEEKS PREGNANT
FIRST TRIMESTER

At two weeks pregnant you are probably still not actually pregnant. This is because doctors begin tracking your pregnancy the first day of your last period. This helps doctors have a standard way of predicting an accurate due date. Therefore, at two weeks pregnant you should be close to ovulating and trying to conceive and become pregnant.
What should I be doing during Week 2 of pregnancy?
Timing is key when it comes to getting pregnant. This is because eggs, once released, typically are able to be fertilized for 12- 24 hours after release. If you are trying to conceive, you want to begin having sex when you are most fertile, the days leading up to when you are ovulating. If you have a regular 28 day cycle, this is most likely on day 15 of your cycle. However, many women do not have a regular 28 day cycle. If you are one of these women you can look for the following signs to help you figure out when you are ovulating:
Signs You May Be Ovulating
Pelvic pain during ovulation is known as mittelschmerz, which comes from German terms meaning “middle” and “pain”. The pain is caused when an egg and follicular fluid are released from the ovaries.
When you ovulate, your discharge may change to a clear, thin, stretchy consistency. Much like raw egg whites.
Hormones released during ovulation may cause your breasts to become sore and tender.
Studies have shown that during ovulation, when women become more fertile, women were more sensitive to different scents than women who were not ovulating.
Some women report having an increased sex drive near their ovulation.
When the follicle bursts it may cause light spotting during ovulation.
Women who check their cervix routinely may notice changes in their cervix when they are ovulating. These may include the cervix getting harder, softer, or wider. Be sure to always wash your hands before and after cervix checks.
Other ways to help you determine when you are ovulating include purchasing an ovulation test kit, and tracking your period.
Lifestyle Changes to Increase Chances of Getting Pregnant
There are also different lifestyle changes you can make to increase your chances of becoming pregnant. These include:
- Take prenatal vitamins
- Eat a well balanced diet
- Make a preconception appointment with your healthcare provider
- Lose weight
- Stop smoking or drinking alcohol
Body Changes During Week 2
During the second week of pregnancy your body is preparing for the chance to become pregnant. The first thing your body will do is ovulate. This typically happens between the 13th-20th day of your cycle, in between periods. When your body ovulates, your ovaries releases an egg into the fallopian tube. During conception the sperm will meet the egg in the fallopian tube. For the sperm to fertilize the egg, they will need to meet at the perfect time. To help this happen, hormones are also released into your body to help ensure the egg develops properly. Once the egg becomes fertilized the uterine lining will start strengthening.
Pregnancy Symptoms
2 Weeks Pregnant Common Symptoms
You probably will not start experiencing signs of pregnancy until Week Four, which is around the time you may miss your period and take a pregnancy test. However, many women swear they experience the following signs before then.
Implantation bleeding, more commonly known as spotting, happens when an egg attaches itself to the uterine wall. This may cause the breaking down of blood vessels that will cause bleeding. This typically lasts from a few hours to a few days, however women who are going through their first pregnancy should expect this to last longer. This can happen at any time during the first trimester, however, it is commonly starts 10-14 days after conception.
When you become pregnant, blood flow in the kidneys is increased from 35-60%. This may cause your kidneys to produce up to 25% more urine. If you are experiencing more frequent urination, make sure you continue to drink a lot of water so you do not become dehydrated.
When you become pregnant, your breasts begin making tissue to help store milk. This may cause your breasts to become sore or tender and your nipples to become darker.
When you become pregnant your body starts making changes to help deliver nutrients to the baby. All these changes may cause you to feel extremely tired during the early stages of pregnancy.
All About Baby Week 2
Although we don’t see development of a baby until, there are still a couple of things that happen directly after conception. The first thing is the cells will start multiplying and then begin to move down the fallopian tube to the uterus. The baby’s gender is also determined within days of conception!
Week 2 Ultrasound
At week two of pregnancy you shouldn’t need an ultrasound. Even if you did get an ultrasound, the doctor would not be able to see anything. A doctor may do an ultrasound at week two of pregnancy if a woman has struggled getting pregnant in the past to ensure there are no problems with the uterus.
