Caring for Your Jellycat

Your children’s plush Jellycat friends can easily accumulate dirt, dust, and even germs! Cleaning these fuzzy friends regularly is important to maintain hygiene and ensure your Jellycat will last.

How to Clean Jellycat Stuffed Animals

Check the Care Label

Before you begin cleaning your Jellycat, be sure to check the care label. If you cut tags for your children try to store the tags in a safe place, or take a picture of it to refer back to! Jellycat does provide specific instructions on each item and will indicate whether it’s safe to put in the washing machine or if it requires hand washing or surface washing.

Machine Washable Jellycat

This label indicates this Jellycat can be machine washed cold, do not bleach, do not tumble dry, do not dry clean

If the care tag indicates that your friend is machine washable, follow these instructions:

  1. Use a pillowcase or laundry bag for the Jellycat to help protect it during the wash.
  2. Use a gentle cycle with cold water.
  3. Use a mild detergent – one suitable for delicate materials is best!
  4. After the wash cycle, remove the toy from the pillowcase or laundry bag and re-shape it. It’s best to air dry your plushie friends. To speed up the process, use a hair dryer on cool setting to help separate and fluff the fibers on the toy and keeping it from getting stiff.

Hand Washable Jellycat

Some Jellycat are more delicate and must be hand washed only.

  1. Fill a basin or sink with lukewarm water and add a small amount of mild detergent.
  2. Completely submerge the plush and gently agitate with your hands to clean.
  3. Use a soft cloth or sponge to gently scrub the toy.
  4. Rinse the plush with clean, lukewarm water until all the soap and grime are gone.
  5. Squeeze any excess water avoiding wringing or twisting the toy.
  6. Reshape the toy to its original form.
  7. Air dry or use a cool hair dryer to prevent the fur from getting stiff.

Spot Cleaning/Surface Wash Only Jellycat

For Jellycat that cannot be submerged in water, spot clean stains with a mild detergent and dab the affected area. Avoid rubbing too hard. Use a dry cloth and gently press into the cleaned area to remove excess moisture, and allow to air dry.

Tips to Keep Your Jellycat Looking Its Best!

Brush your Jellycat

You can use a soft-bristled brush or a lint roller to remove loose particles, hair, lint, etc. We recommend using a soft baby brush or a doll brush.

Keep Out of Sunlight

Avoid leaving your friend in direct sunlight for extended periods since this may cause fading or discoloration.

Store Safely

Store in a toy chest or bin when not in use to prevent your friends from collecting dust.
